About Baton Rouge, Ben & Het
'Baton Rouge' is the French word for mile stone.
For us it really became a "milestone"!
In 2000 we moved from The Netherlands to Belgium to make our dream come truth, a motor Inn in the most beautiful area of the Benelux, the Ardennes.
We saw a lot of buildings before we found this one, it took us three years, but I must say this is the most beautiful one!
We found it in december 2002, just outside the little village of Vielsalm, right in the heart of the ardennes. It is a 400 year old building, where they used to distil a local Jenever. It was love at first sign. A great old building with loads of possibilities, beautifully situated with a great garden.
In the year that we bought the house we had to work hard to get it ready for the coming season, but we opened at the first of february 2003 and had a great season. We normally are opened all year, but in the winter we do some construction work to make things more comfortable for us and the guests.
We normally do all the work ourselves with some help from friends. Only the big work we leave to construction builders.
It is a lot of fun, but off course we rather go out with the bikes.....
Ben and I used to ride a Laverda, but a few years ago Ben bought a Triumph Thunderbird Sport.
It really suited him, but after I lost my heart to a Buell 1200 he started shopping for an other bike. He find himself a Triumph Speed triple. But we still have the Laverda and we're both really fine with our choice!
We regular go out together if we can find the time and also accompany the guests if the want to have a toured trip!
There is no better way the to break the peace by curving trough those beautiful bends!
As everybody knows the Ardennes are famous for their beautiful forests, nice hills, great views and nice curves.
We do organize a few activities through out the year, like guided tours, winter walks, special parties and so more, also on demand.
We hope to see you in our Motor Inn in the near future.
